Baseball Climbs the CACC Ladder in 7-5 Victory at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom opened an early six-run lead and made it stand, moving into second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division with a 7-5 win at Jefferson in East Falls, PA.

Goldey-Beacom held a 1-0 lead entering the top of the second inning, when it exploded for five runs.  Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) had an RBI single up the middle and sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) followed suit for a 3-0 lead.  Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) continued his scorching-hot play with a run-scoring single and junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) added to what already has been a standout campaign with a two-run single, making it 6-0.

Jefferson looked to make things interesting with two runs in the third, courtesy of Marquise Wood's run-scoring double and Josh Lopez' RBI single for a 6-2 game.  Wood came through again in the fifth, leading off with a home run to make it a three-run contest.

The Lightning got one back in the seventh for a 7-3 lead.  Petrillo lined a one-out single, took second on a groundout, stole third and crossed home on a passed ball.

The Rams pushed two runs across in the eighth and had the tying run at the plate with none out in the ninth, but sophomore Alex Hinton (Wilmington, DE) shut the door for a massive division victory.

Sicklerville, NJ senior Anthony DiMartino (4-2) again pitched great, striking out five over five innings.  His 13th career victory puts him tied for second in program history along with Trevor Jump (2018-22) and one behind Mitch Guerrieri (2018-22).  DiMartino already has the strikeouts record, now at 157.

Petrillo also continued to be one of the Lightning's major bright spots, ending with three hits and three stolen bases.  Walker closed with three RBI.

Wood and Lopez finished with two hits apiece and Gabe Silva (2-1) allowed six runs – one earned – and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

GBC (25-13, 10-5 CACC) now holds a half-game lead over Jefferson (20-16, 9-5) for second place in the South Division.  The top three teams in each of the two divisions advance to the CACC Tournament with the second seed hosting the third seed in a best-of-three series within each division.

Goldey-Beacom is ranked sixth in the East Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and Jefferson received votes.

These schools will play a doubleheader this Saturday at Doyle Field in Hockessin, beginning at noon.
