Johnny Kampes Runs into the Record Book in Baseball’s Sweep at Felician

Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) notched a school-record six stolen bases and Goldey-Beacom got a huge Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep at Felician, 6-3 and 8-4, in Lyndhurst, NJ.

The teams in game one were locked in a 2-2 tussle entering the seventh and final inning, when the Lightning broke the tie.  The Golden Falcons opted for a reliever with two outs and two runners on, but it was not enough to prevent senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) from roping an RBI double to score sophomore Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) for a 3-2 lead.

Sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) followed with a two-run triple and junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) followed with an RBI single to cap the four-run frame for a 6-2 GBC lead.

Felician pushed one across in the last of the seventh before sophomore Alex Hinton (Wilmington, DE) got Edwin Tavarez to ground out for the final.

Lindsey's RBI double in the third forged a 1-1 tie before sophomore Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) lined an RBI single in the sixth for a 2-1 GBC cushion.  Anthony Lamar tied things in the last of the sixth on an infield single that plated Tavares.

Mount Bethel, PA freshman Kevin Dillon (4-0) now has won all four of his starts after allowing just two runs and seven hits over six innings.  Hinton allowed just the one unearned run for his second save of the year.

Lindsey and Johnson amassed three hits apiece.

Tavarez and Lamar recorded two hits apiece and Wilfrido Valenzuela struck out seven, but yielded four runs and eight hits over 6 2/3 innings for Felician.

Goldey-Beacom (24-13, 9-5 CACC) in the fourth inning of game two scored once to break a 4-4 tie.  Kampes drew a one-out walk, stole second to tie the record, stole third to break the mark and scored on a single from junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE).

The previous record of five stolen bases in one game was held by Raul Perez-Duran, who accomplished this April 21, 2018 against Dominican (NY).  Kampes now is at 38 career stolen bases, two behind the mark held by Mason Maxwell (2019-22), and his single-season school-record total now is at 31.

Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-4 and Kampes scored in the sixth after stealing third, followed by a throwing error.

Lincoln U., PA junior Karl Schmidt (2-0) gets the win, striking out three over three innings and junior Dylan Bittle (Media, PA) got three strikeouts of his own over two innings for the save.  Kolmansberger and sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) got two hits apiece.

The Lightning opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second.  Junior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) got back to his familiar role of driving in runs with a two-RBI double and Petrillo added an RBI single.

Felician (16-22, 9-5) got one back in the last of the frame, but GBC restored the three-run margin in the third.  Kolmansberger singled, took second on Johnson's walk, reached third on a passed ball and scored on DiSabatino's squeeze bunt.

The Golden Falcons tied things in the fourth when Tavarez got an RBI single and Jose David Medrano added a two-run single for a 4-4 tie.

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday visits Jefferson for a big CACC South Division contest.  First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
