Baseball Drops a Pair to No. 16 Millersville

Goldey-Beacom held the lead in game one, but was handed a doubleheader sweep against 16th-ranked Millersville by scores of 3-2 and 10-0 in Millersville, PA.

Goldey-Beacom (7-4), ranked sixth in the East Region according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, in game one opened the scoring in the top of the second inning.  Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) reached on a fielder's choice, Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) singled and fellow sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) walked to load the bases with two outs.  Junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) stepped in and continued what truly has been a remarkable career, lining a two-run single to left-center field for a 2-0 GBC lead.

Millersville got one back in the third on an RBI single from Bren Taylor and tied things, 2-2, in the fourth when Matthew Williams roped a run-scoring single to center.

Both teams looked for the lead as this seven-inning game stretched into extra innings.  But it was Millersville which ended things in the last of the ninth, when Taylor ripped an RBI single to right that plated Chase Simmons.

Petrillo closed with three hits and junior Jake Kelchner (Collegeville, PA) pitched great in a no-decision, striking out five over six innings.

Taylor rapped three hits and Alex Mykut struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision for the Marauders.

Unfortunately in game two, it was Millersville which first cracked the scoreboard.  It happened in the first inning when Jimmy Losh scored on an error, Williams two batters later crushed a two-run homer and Thomas Caufield followed with a home run to left for a 4-0 score.

The Marauders (14-3) added five more in the second for a 9-0 lead.  Williams, Taylor and Tyler Wright each had RBI singles, Losh stole home and Simmons drew a bases-loaded walk.

Walker had a single, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.  The 2021 second team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference pick now has a hit in 28 of his last 29 contests.

Williams had two hits and three RBI for the Marauders.  Carson Kulina struck nine over seven innings in getting a two-hit shutout.

These two teams on Sunday close their four-game series with a doubleheader at Doyle Field in Hockessin.  First pitch is at noon.
