Demetrius Johnson’s Walk-Off Single Caps Ninth-Inning Rally In Baseball’s 10-9 Win Over Molloy; Kyle Walker Sets School Record With 24-Game Hitting Streak

In a battle between a pair of regionally ranked teams, junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) lined a game-winning single to cap a two-run rally in the last of the ninth inning and propel Goldey-Beacom to a thrilling 10-9 victory over Molloy at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Molloy in the top of the eighth broke an 8-8 tie to take the lead.  Garrett Scavelli stroked a leadoff single, went to second on Anthony Manisero's single and took third on Jake McCarthy's single.  Aidan Larkin made it pay with a sacrifice fly that scored Scavelli for the one-run lead.

But the Lightning save their dramatics for the ninth.  Junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) lined a one-single and scored when sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) followed with an RBI double.  Johnson then stepped to the plated and lined one that just eluded left fielder Sean Serrano, easily allowing Kolmansberger to cross home.

The other major story was junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) continuing his unbelievable play, doubling in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 24 games.  This establishes a new school record for the 2021 second team All-CACC pick that last season was set by CACC Player of the Year Marshall Awtry.

Walker now has a hit in 42 of his last 43 games dating to last season, when he ended with an 18-game hitting streak.

Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) also continues to swing a red-hot bat, rapping a home run and three hits as part of his three-RBI day to run his hitting streak to nine games.  Senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) clubbed a big three-run homer in the fourth to give the Lightning an 8-4 lead, part of his day in which he had two hits and three RBI.

Walker, Kolmansberger, Johnson and junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) also closed with two hits for Goldey-Beacom (16-9).

Mechanicsburg, PA freshman Nate Miller (1-0) pitched the ninth inning and got his first collegiate win, striking out two.

Scavelli notched three hits and three RBI with Manisero getting three and two for the Lions (16-9).

Goldey-Beacom is tied for sixth in the last National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll and Molloy is fifth.

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday is back in action against Alliance at noon.  The doubleheader will be played at SIUH Community Park, home of the Staten Island FerryHawks and former home of the Staten Island Yankees.
