Baseball Rolls to 21-5 Win Over Alliance in CACC Opener

Goldey-Beacom broke the school record for most runs, saw seven players get at least two hits, put up a crooked number in each inning, junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) extend his hitting streak and freshman Kevin Dillon (Mount Bethel, PA) get his first collegiate victory in a 21-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Alliance at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

GBC gained control with five runs in the last of the second inning for a 6-1 lead, keyed by a two-run triple from junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ).  Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD), the reigning CACC Player of the Week, had an RBI double in the frame after hitting a solo home run in the first.

The Lightning owned an 8-5 lead entering the last of the fifth before getting four more runs.  Senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) crushed a solo homer, sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) had a two-run single and then scored on a wild pitch.

Goldey-Beacom (14-8, 1-0 CACC), ranked sixth in the East Region according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, then plated nine in the sixth inning to win by mercy rule.  Kampes provided a highlight with a two-run double and Lindsey added a three-run triple later in the inning.

Kampes rapped three hits to go with four RBI and now has nine career home runs, putting him seventh in team history.  Lindsey also had four RBI to go with two hits and his 11 career homers places him tied for fifth in team annals.

Walker, who continues to be a dynamo both at the plate and in the field, had three hits and extended his hitting streak to 21 games.  The school record is 23, set last season by Marshall Awtry.

Dillon was outstanding over six innings, striking out seven.  Petrillo, Johnson, junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) and sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) all had two hits apiece.

The 21 runs are one better than the previous team mark set April 29, 2021 at University of the Sciences and April 30, 2022 at Nyack (present-day Alliance).  The 18 RBI are one shy of the school record set April 24, 2022 vs. USciences.

Kareem Holloway notched three hits and Darnell Guerrero homered for Alliance (1-19, 0-1).

These teams will play in a doubleheader Saturday in Brooklyn, beginning at noon.
