Baseball Gains a Split with No. 10 Southern New Hampshire

Goldey-Beacom rallied in game two for a 7-4 win over 10th-ranked Southern New Hampshire after falling 4-3 in game one at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The first inning of game two saw a huge defensive play from junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ), diving for a flyball with bases loaded to keep the Penmen off the board.

The Lightning struck early with a run from junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE), who reached on a single for his 36th game with a hit in the last 37.

A home run in the second by Harry Vargas-Segura in the second tied up the score in the second.

But the Lightning in the fourth fired for six runs of singles by sophomores Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) and Nick Harkins (Newark, DE), and a double from junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA). The Penmen totaled three errors and a balk to assist the Lightning.

The Penmen added another run in the sixth off a single from Gabe Passey before a homerun by Danniel Rivera and a final run by Cam Caraher closed the game at 7-4 in favor of the Lightning.

Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) connected for two hits, Miller finished with one hit and two RBI, and Harkins closed with one hit and one RBI. With his hit, Walker ties his career-best 18-game hitting streak.

Sicklerville, NJ senior Anthony DiMartino (2-0) recorded the win striking out six over six innings.

Caraher and Jorge Burgos notched two hits apiece for the Penmen.

Southern New Hampshire (11-5) in game one opened with three runs in the first inning off a two-run triple from Nick Schwartz and a groundout RBI from Caraher for a 3-0 lead.

The Lightning (11-8) saw freshman Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) reached on a single to right field before scoring on a throwing error by Penmen pitcher Jeffery Praml. Johnson drove in Kolmansberger with a single down the left field line to total two runs in the second inning.

In the fifth, sophomore Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, NJ) connect for a single to place him on base for Kampes, who fired a double to make it 3-3.

An intentional walk by the Lightning gave the Penmen bases loaded in the ninth inning. The winning run was scored by Rivera on a wild pitch, and despite bases loaded for the Lightning, they were unable to capitalize.

Sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA), and Kampes, Walker and DiSabatino all totaled one hit each.

Junior Jake Kelchner (Collegeville, PA) closed with six strikeouts over six innings for the Lightning.

Rivera and Vargas-Segura notched two hits for the Penmen, with Schwartz adding one hit and two RBI.

Goldey-Beacom is home on Saturday to face Southern New Hampshire in a doubleheader with the first pitch at noon.
