Baseball Splits Two With Queens (NY)

Goldey-Beacom notched an 11-5 victory in game two over Queens (NY) after opening things with a 5-4 loss at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The Lightning in game two plated five runs in the last of the first inning to gain a 5-1 lead.  Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE), fellow junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA), junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) and sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) each had RBI hits in that time.

GBC then scored four runs in the fifth for a 9-1 lead.  Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) had an RBI double, Walker recorded a sacrifice fly with DiSabatino and senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) each drove in runs later in the frame.

DiSabatino closed with two hits and four RBI with Miller, Kolmansberger and sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) each getting two hits.  Walker had a hit and now owns a 16-game hitting streak, two shy of his own personal mark that is second-best in program history.  He also has a hit in 34 of his last 35 contests.

Moorestown, NJ sophomore Wyatt Atkinson (1-0) notched his first career victory, striking out four over four innings and allowing just one run and four hits.

Queens (5-4) in game one got a two-run homer from Segarra in the first, a run-scoring groundout from Mike Freda in the second and a bases-loaded walk from Marc Cisco later in the frame for a 4-0 lead.

The Lightning (10-7) rallied to tie in the fourth.  Lindsey had a sacrifice fly and sophomore Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) emptied the bases with a three-run double to make it 4-4.

But the Knights took the lead for good in the fifth when Matt Filip lined an RBI single down the left-field line.
