Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Splits A Pair At Queens (NY)

Goldey-Beacom in game two grabbed an early lead before holding on for a 4-1 victory after it opened with a 5-3 loss at Queens (NY) in Flushing, NY.

The Lightning in game two opened the scoring in the top of the second inning.  Junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) lined a leadoff single and reached third on a throwing error.  After senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) walked and took second on a passed ball, junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Miller for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) followed with an RBI single to center that plated Lindsey for a 2-0 margin.

Miller again was on the spot in the second inning, this time getting an RBI single to center that scored sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) for a 3-0 game.  Lindsey added a run-scoring groundout later in the frame to score sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) for a four-run lead.

Queens (4-3) got one back in the last of the sixth when Jorsixt Jimenez lined a two-out single that scored Francis Segarra for a 4-1 game.

The Knights' final attempt for a sweep was thwarted in the last of the seventh, when junior Karl Schmidt (Lincoln U., PA) got Segarra to fly out with the bases loaded to end things.

Swoyersville, PA junior Tommy Federici (3-1) again pitched great, striking out six over 6 2/3 innings before Schmidt was tasked with the last out for his second save of the campaign and third career.

Jayson Rodopoulos rapped two hits of the Knights' three hits.

Goldey-Beacom (9-6) in the top of the first inning in game one plated three quick runs.  Junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) lined an RBI single, Miller stroked a run-scoring double and DiSabatino added a sacrifice fly.

But the Knights responded in the last of the frame for a 3-3 tie.  Jay Rodopo scored on a wild pitch, Reed Hoskins had an RBI single and Andrew Ramirez drew a bases-loaded walk.

Queens in the last of the third scored what proved to be the deciding runs.  Jimenez walked and Hoskins followed with a two-run homer that was just one of six hits on the game for the Knights.

Petrillo had two hits and junior Jake Kelchner (Collegeville, PA) struck out three over five innings for the Lightning.

Walker had a hit in both contests and now is riding a 14-game hitting streak  He also has a hit in 32 of his last 33 contests dating to last season.

Hoskins ended 3-for-3 with Jordan Sanabra allowing three runs – one earned – and five hits over six innings for Queens.

Goldey-Beacom and Queens conclude their four-game series with a Sunday doubleheader at Doyle Field in Hockessin.  First pitch is at noon.
