2/27/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom gained more individual accolades in continuing its team success with five tabbed for honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Sophomore pitcher Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) was named Softball's Pitcher of the Week, freshman infielder Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) was tabbed the sport's Rookie of the Week, senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) and junior pitcher Tommy Federici (Swoyersville, PA) each made Baseball's Weekly Honor Roll and freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) was picked to the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

McLane simply was awesome Sunday against Saint Rose, striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings.  She allowed just one hit and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of Goldey-Beacom's 5-0 victory.

It has been an outstanding year plus for McLane, who continues to be one of the area's top pitchers.  She is tied for 11th in team history with 12 career wins and is six strikeouts away from being the 14th in program history to reach 100 career.

Scott batted .571 (4-of-7) on the week with a double and an RBI.  She rapped three hits in game one Sunday against Saint Rose, collecting an RBI double in Goldey-Beacom's 5-0 win.  Scott also had a hit in game two.

Scott has been outstanding during her early play both at shortstop and third base.  She has a hit in six of the eight contests she has played, including three on two occasions that include February 19 against Lock Haven.

The Lightning (7-3) have enjoyed exceptional play of late with double-digit runs in three of their games and not allowing more than two runs in eight of their contests.  They have outscored their opponents 63-24 and possess a .341 batting average, allowing their opponents to hit just .239.

Lindsey Jr. batted .429 (6-for-14) on the week with two doubles and three RBI.  He rapped three hits Thursday against Frostburg State in Goldey-Beacom's 6-2 win and then had two in game one Friday against Mansfield.

Another exceptional and gifted athlete, Lindsey has exploded in the early going with a .345 batting average to go with two doubles and seven RBI.  He has a hit in six of the nine games he has played this season.

Federici struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits in Goldey-Beacom's 10-0 victory Friday over Mansfield.

Federici has proven he can provide solid innings whether in the rotation or coming out of the bullpen.  After notching 27 strikeouts over 19 relief innings a season ago, Federici this year has 12 strikeouts over 10 2/3 frames in his two starts with opponents hitting just .152.

Goldey-Beacom (7-2) has ascended to seventh in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll, helped it part by two victories over then No. 7 in the region Le Moyne.  The team has held its opponents to a .241 batting average and a 1.51 ERA with 83 strikeouts.  The offense has generated an .800 OPS to go with scoring 72 runs.

Marsh averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over two games.  He poured in 27 points on 13-of-22 shooting to go with nine rebounds Wednesday at Jefferson.  Marsh then notched his 14th double-double of the season, getting 16 points and 10 rebounds Saturday at Wilmington.

Marsh is sixth in the nation with 14 double-doubles (second in the CACC), seventh with 282 rebounds (second in the league), 10th with 10.1 rebounds per game (third in the CACC) and second in the conference with 18.7 points per contest.  The five-time pick as the league's Rookie of the Week scored at least 20 points 12 times, including 33 points December 3 against Holy Family.

He ends the year with 524 points for the seven-best mark in program history, 282 rebounds for the second-best mark and 190 field goals to close fourth.

Goldey-Beacom this season played in the competitive CACC South Division against some of the best in the region that featured many close games.  The future for the program is more than bright with no seniors on this season's roster.
