Volleyball Falls, 3-0, in its Home Finale to Wilmington



Goldey-Beacom did its best to try and overcome a tough start, but was dealt a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (14-25, 11-25, 16-25) by Wilmington (DE) in the former's home finale at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Wildcats scored the first eight points and were on their way, getting four aces from Katie Bushong as part of the squad's five in the first set and 13 in the match.
 
Wilmington over the final two sets combined for 28 kills and just six errors over 63 attacks for a .349 hitting percentage.
 
GBC in the third set put up a battle in getting 12 kills over 28 attacks for a .357 percentage, staying close on the scoreboard most of the time.  Freshman Ngozi Nwosu (Brockton, MA) had four kills in the set with sophomore Nina Bongiovanni (San Tan Valley, AZ) adding three.
 
Juliana Malena (Miramar, FL) ended the match with 13 assists and nine digs, fellow freshman Brenna Piller (Simsbury, CT) recorded nine digs and Nwosu had eight kills for Goldey-Beacom (0-18, 0-15 CACC).  Claudia Camporro (Gijon, Spain), fellow sophomore Damaris Rodriguez (Derwood, MD) and junior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) had six digs apiece with Bongiovanni and sophomore Megan Chesser (Grove City, OH) adding five kills each.
 
Bushong was all over with 19 assists, 12 digs and five aces for Wilmington (15-12, 9-5), which won its fifth straight match.  Shannen Litten notched eight kills, Sydney Barrett had seven with Claudia Melendez adding eight assists and eight digs.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday ends its season, beginning with a CACC match at 1:00 pm against Bridgeport that is followed by a non-league tilt versus Southern Connecticut State.
