Volleyball Ends Season at the Bridgeport Tri-Match

Goldey-Beacom grabbed the opening set against regionally ranked Bridgeport in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (25-22, 16-25, 15-25, 20-25) before it was dealt a 3-0 setback (14-25, 20-25, 11-25) in the neutral-site match against Southern Connecticut State in Bridgeport, CT.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the opening set against Bridgeport broke to an early lead and led by as many as 13-7.  The Purple Knights closed to a 16-16 tie before the Lightning ended with a 9-6 run, keyed by two kills from junior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL).
 
Freshmen Ma'kayla Coats (Ann Arbor, MI) and Brenna Piller (Simsbury, CT) had three kills in the set to help GBC notch 13 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.
 
But Bridgeport had its way in the third set with 13 kills and a .393 percentage to take control of the match.  Hailey Jessen notched five kills in that span and Grace Presswood added three.
 
Piller just missed a triple-double with 11 assists, eight kills and nine digs, freshman Juliana Malena (Miramar, FL) dished 13 assists, junior Morgan Mendick (Bear, DE) had eight digs, sophomore Megan Chesser (Grove City, OH) totaled six kills and two aces with freshman Ngozi Nwosu (Brockton, MA) adding six kills for the Lightning (0-20, 0-17 CACC).
 
Jaden Drollinger recorded 42 assists, Datari Mathis had 12 kills and a .391 percentage, Jensen notched 13 kills with Presswood adding 12 and 15 digs for the Purple Knights (20-6, 13-1).
 
Bridgeport is listed among the 10 NCAA regionally ranked schools in the East, which sees the initial release merely list the teams in alphabetical order and not by rank.
 
The second match saw Southern Connecticut State end the first set on an 18-6 run, courtesy of Ahunna James getting four kills in that span.  The Owls in that set closed with nine kills and a .273 percentage.
 
Mendick for the match closed with 13 digs, Malena notched 11 assists, Nwosu recorded five kills and Chesser added three aces for the Lightning.
 
Lily Miller dished 22 assists and Carissa Michel had eight kills for the Owls (12-16).
 
Chesser ends the season with 33 aces and presently is 14th in the CACC.  Malena closes with 222 assists and she is 17th.
