Women’s Basketball Reveals 2023-24 Schedule

10/25/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's women's basketball team is on the verge of returning as one of the elite units in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and looks to continue that versus a tough schedule that was just announced.

GBC opens by hosting a tournament that features games November 10 against the District of Columbia and the 11th versus New Haven.  The squad remains home for a game November 15 against Lincoln (PA) and three days later versus Indiana (PA).

Goldey-Beacom begins CACC play at home November 29 against Holy Family before going on a four-game road trip.  That will include a New England trip to face Saint Michael's on December 9 and American International the next day.

The squad on January 13 visits Post for a non-league game against the reigning CACC runners-up.  They will battle in a conference meeting February 17 in Pike Creek.

February 3 features a game at defending CACC champion Dominican (NY) before a three-game homestand that starts February 10 against Caldwell.  This is before GBC faces Georgian Court four days later and the aforementioned game with Post.

The home and regular season concludes March 2 against Wilmington (DE).

The top four teams from the North and South Divisions compete in the CACC quarterfinals on March 5.  The winners take part in championship weekend March 9-10 at Caldwell University with the champion earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore guard Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) exploded onto the collegiate scene last season and seeks to maintain that stance.  A gifted shooter who others have to game plan around, she ended last season first in the CACC with .474 three-point percentage, second with 65 three-pointers (tied for third best in team history), 13th with .441 field goal percentage and 23rd with 94 field goals.

Forward Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) for three seasons has been an important post presence and looks to continue that in her senior campaign.  A vital competitor in all facets, Stevens finished last season third in the CACC with 42 blocks, 31st with 28 steals and 48th with 38 assists.

Sophomore guard Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) hopes to benefit from a great deal of graduation turnover after playing in 25 games a season ago with 10 starts.  Junior guard Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) and junior forward Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) should see more playing time in hopes of getting the Lightning back among the East's best.

Academic success for the program continued last season with four being named College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District and six making the CACC Academic Honor Roll.

The 2022-23 year saw former standout guard Sarah Round (Northampton, England) picked as the school's nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.  This marked the third time in six years the honoree was from women's basketball, including Amanda McGrogan in 2020 and Tanner Turner-Rush in 2018.
