Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Again Plays Solidly in 3-1 Loss to Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom rolled to an easy triumph in the second set, but could not carry the momentum in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25) against Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the second set played with a great deal of momentum and showed outstanding cohesiveness throughout.  They notched 11 kills in the set over 26 attacks and amassed a .269 hitting percentage.  Ma'kayla Coats (Ann Arbor, MI) had four kills in the set, fellow freshman Eva Eanes (Nokesville, VA) added two with sophomore Megan Chesser (Grove City, OH) and freshman Brenna Piller (Simsbury, CT) getting two aces apiece.

GBC in the fourth set was in an 18-8 hole, but went on a 10-5 run to make things interesting and see Holy Family exhaust all of its timeouts.  Six different players recorded a kill and Chesser added an ace.

Freshman Juliana Malena (Miramar, FL) closed with 18 assists, junior Morgan Mendick (Bear, DE) notched 17 digs, Coats recorded nine kills and Chesser had six aces to fall one short of her career high for the Lightning (0-15, 0-12 CACC).

Ava Kidd notched 16 kills, Shelby Kinzer had 11, Morgan Steck dished 40 assists and Maeve Boylan added 17 digs for the Tigers (8-16, 6-5).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post on Senior Day, beginning at noon.
