Volleyball Handed 3-1 Loss at Bloomfield



Goldey-Beacom continues to show hope for future seasons, shown by forcing Bloomfield into a fourth set in a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 21-25) loss in Bloomfield, NJ.
 
The second set saw evenly matched play from both sides, but the Lightning edged out Bloomfield with two service aces from freshman Ngozi Nwosu (Brockton, MA) and two errors from the Bears. The Lightning closed the match with a total of 10 aces to Bloomfield's five.
 
Bloomfield took control of the offensive side throughout the match, winning the hitting percentage battle with .206 to the Lightning's .037. Bloomfield had a particularly strong third set with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .312.
 
Freshman Juliana Malena (Miramar, FL) dished 17 assists to go with nine digs, while fellow freshman Brenna Piller (Simsbury, CT) finished with 11 and six. Junior Morgan Mendick (Bear, DE) took control of the defensive side, closing with 13 digs, and freshman Ma'kayla Coats (Ann Arbor, MI) notched nine kills for GBC (0-14, 0-11 CACC).
 
Amanda Arroyo had 14 kills, 21 assists and 14 digs, Ronaya Moore and Esther Dogbe added 12 kills apiece, Lauryn Hansford had 24 assists and Sophia Wintonick had 18 digs for Bloomfield (3-10, 3-8).
 
Goldey-Beacom host Holy Family on Wednesday in a 7:00 pm matchup at the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
