Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Handed 3-1 Loss by Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom had a strong defensive showing despite what the final score says, but was dealt a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Jefferson at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

After giving up an early goal, the Lightning held the Rams off the scoreboard for what amounted to almost a full half.  GBC continues to play solid and cohesive soccer with many young players in the mix showing plenty of hope for the future.

That early goal for Jefferson (4-7, 3-4 CACC) came in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead.  Sean Stackhouse had a great pass in the box that Diego Guzman knocked home for his second goal of the campaign.

The Lightning (5-8-1, 3-4-1) battled for the equalizer and finally got it in the 36th minute.  Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) had the ball outside the box and fed it to fellow junior Tumi Sekhampu (Midrand, South Africa), who found the back of the next for his second goal of the year and a 1-1 tie.

Jefferson got another early go in a half, this time in the seventh minute of the second half for a 2-1 margin.  Mateo Infante was taken down in the box for a penalty kick, which Gabe Paz put inside the left post for his second goal of the year.

The Rams all but ended things in the 64th minute when Miles Hood fired one home from roughly 40 yards for his first goal of the year.

Junior Chris Jones (Denton, MD), on Monday named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, made three saves and Person attempted five shots for the Lightning.

Matteo Crescente had four saves and Guzman recorded five shots for the Rams.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Post as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 2:30 pm, which follows the women's noon contest.
