Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Dealt Heartbreaking 1-0 Loss by Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom once again put forth a more than impressive defensive showing, but gave up a late goal in a tough 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Jefferson at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning for the entire season have fortified themselves with a solid defense that have many teams, including the first-place Rams, making adjustments on offense.  Today marked the seventh game this season GBC did not surrender more than one goal and the fifth straight.  It also was the fifth consecutive contest the Lightning did not give up a first-half marker.

But things turned in the 83rd minute.  Nikki Dedes dribbled the ball around the defense and her cross found Devin Sullivan, who knocked it home for her sixth goal of the season.

The Rams had the offensive pressure the whole game with 13 shots, but only had six on frame.  Liv Riddel needed to make just one save for Jefferson (8-2-2, 6-0-1 CACC).

Junior Jennifer Mejia (State College, PA), named Monday to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, made five saves for the Lightning (2-5-6, 2-3-3).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Post as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at noon, followed by the men's contest at 2:30 pm.
