Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Leaves New England With a Massive 2-1 Triumph at Post

Goldey-Beacom took a huge step toward making the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament a ninth straight year, rallying with two second-half goals for a 2-1 victory at Post in Waterbury, CT.

The Eagles broke the scoring deadlock in the final minute of the first half.  After the teams combined for seven headers following a throw-in, Kaeleigh Serianni picked up the loose change and fed a perfect ball to Amber McGee.  The latter took little time to receive the pass and find the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

The Lightning in the 50th minute benefited from a hand ball in the box following a cross from the right side, setting up a penalty kick.  Senior Samantha Emmi (Logan Twp., NJ) obliged by burying one inside the left post for her fourth goal of the season, second penalty and a 1-1 tie.

Goldey-Beacom kept pressuring Post into the second half and was rewarded with a goal in the 78th minute for a 2-1 lead.  Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) took the ball away from a defender and found freshman Lexy Yeager (West Deptford, NJ), who lofted one from 20 yards that just went under the crossbar and in for her fourth goal of the year.

Post had a great opportunity to equalize with five minutes left, but a header in the box was thwarted by junior goalkeeper Jennifer Mejia (State College, PA).

Credit for the win also goes to junior Alexa Pacheco (Santo Domingo, PR), who seemingly was all over the pitch the entire time and played a massive role in helping control possessions for the Lightning.  This has been the case for much of her time with the team as she has started all 47 contests she has played.

Mejia closed with four saves and freshman Jade Balon (Smyrna, DE) attempted three shots for the Lightning.

McGee had five shots and Alexis Campbell recorded seven saves for the Eagles (2-8-3, 1-5-3 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (3-5-6, 3-3-3) is tied with Holy Family (3-2-3) for seventh place in the CACC at 12 points apiece, but the latter has one game in hand.  Dominican-NY (2-3-3) is ninth with nine points.  The top eight teams make the conference tournament, which begins November 5.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday plays its final non-conference match of the regular season, visiting Staten Island for a 3:00 pm contest.
