Women’s Soccer Rallies for 1-1 Tie at Holy Family

Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) continued her stellar play, scoring in the 82nd minute that helped Goldey-Beacom rally for a 1-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tie at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom all season has showed tenacious defense and continued that for 77 minutes, but it was breached in the 78th for the game's first tally.  The Tigers battled to earn a corner kick and Allison Loper took over, playing a perfect ball from the right side that Maura Kilkenny headed home.

But Lowry, on Monday named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week after answering the alarm in emergency duty, got the Lightning out of a rut just four minutes later.  She intercepted a clear from Holy Family's goalkeeper and lofted home a 30-yard shot just under the bar for her first goal of the season and 10th career.

The Lightning battled to earn a point in the standings, making sure 24 of the Tigers 25 shots did not find the back of the net.  Goldey-Beacom has allowed just four goals in the first half this season over its 11 games.

Lowry closed with four shots and junior Jennifer Mejia (State College, PA) made six saves for the Lightning (1-4-6, 1-2-3 CACC).

Brynn Hess had nine shots and Jaina Preuhs notched five saves for the Tigers (2-5-3, 1-2-3).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is at Bloomfield as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time in Bloomfield, NJ is at 1:30 pm, followed by the men's contest at approximately 3:45 pm.
