Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Turns it on in the Second Half for a 4-0 Victory Over Staten Island

Goldey-Beacom got four goals in the second half and put forth a dominating performance in a 4-0 triumph over Staten Island at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning dominated throughout, but kept getting thwarted in their attempt to find the back of the net.  That changed in the 61st minute, when Paulimar Coll (Grantville, PA) got a pass from fellow sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and put home a 10-yard shot for her third career goal.

Then came the game's biggest sequence.  The Dolphins' Macy Jones-Busch had a shot saved by GBC sophomore Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA) and another clang off the crossbar that also could have resulted in a tie game.  The ball went the other way and sophomore Angela Lee (Warren, RI) scored on a difficult angle in the 77th minute for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 margin.

Freshman Mariah McQueen (Baltimore, MD) in the 82nd minute netted her fifth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE) for a 3-0 lead.  Ruggeri in the 88th minute found the back of the next on a 10-yard shot for the final.

Ruggeri's seventh goal of the season now gives her 19 career, just two off from the school's top 10 list.  Her 18 career assists put her in sole possession of fifth place in team annals and her 56 career points has her tied for ninth in program annals.

Ruggeri ended with five shots and Cashin had two saves over 82 minutes for the Lightning (4-6).

Sara Villacres played great in net over 82 minutes, making 12 saves for CSI (0-6-1).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Please note the women's game begins at 11:00 am and the men's contest starts at 1:30 pm.
