Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls, 5-1, at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom grabbed the lead in the opening half, but then fell on the wrong end of five unanswered goals in a 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Sophomore Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE) has provided more than outstanding play in his two seasons with the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold with today showing more of the same.  Sophomore Andres Osorio (Cali, Colombia) launched a perfect long ball that found Short, who buried it inside the right post for his second goal of the season and sixth career.

The Lions tied things in the 49th minute.  They won a 50/50 ball roughly 25 yards from the cage and a shot from reserve Logan Romero bounced in off the right post for a 1-1 tie.

Romero one minute later was that guy on the spot again.  Georgian Court won another 50/50 ball, Romero took a cross from the right side and he buried it that gave his side its first lead at 2-1.

Things got worse for the Lightning in the 54th minute when the home team made it 3-1.  A run down the right side resulted in the ball getting to Francisco Corral, who banged one in off the crossbar.

Joseph Ficarotta found the back of the net in the 60th minute and Brandon Sogness scored on a long run in the 76th minute for the final.

The loss certainly can not be blamed on junior goalkeeper Lucas Rinaldi (Santos, Brazil), who was making his first appearance for the Lightning and showed solid play.  He ended with seven saves, which included six in the opening half.

Sophomore Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) notched six shots for the Lightning (0-7, 0-2 CACC).

Ficarotta and Guilliano Cavalcante had four shots apiece with Sotirios Gkosdis making nine saves for the Lions (2-4, 1-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at 3:30 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
