Goldey-Beacom came out fired up and opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 3-1 win over Bloomfield in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning set the tone of the game early by showing strong offensive play. The first goal came from freshman Mariah McQueen (Baltimore, MD) in the 18th minute off a corner kick from Angela Lee (Warren, R.I.).

Bloomfield equalized shortly after when Kayla Silva finished on an unassisted play,  booting a loose ball into the goal in the 24th minute.

The Lightning did not let this faze them, capitalizing on the Bears defensive mistakes and giving them 2-1 lead in the 30th minute. Lee played the ball through to sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.), who was able to find the back of the net off a one tap finish.

The final goal of the match came late in the second half after Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) finished a 10-yard shot inside the left post, assisted by Ruggeri and freshman Kaitlyn Nolan (Central Valley, N.Y.). Nolan showed intuitive play, playing through balls to create opportunities for her teammates.

Ruggeri and Lowry finished with seven shots apiece, McQueen totaled five with Lee getting with three and two assists.

Goalkeeper Mia Phillip totaled 12 saves for the Bears.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Lakewood, NJ next Tuesday for a CACC matchup against Georgian Court.  Game time is at 3:00 pm.
