Shayla Boyce Reaches 1,000 Career Kills During Volleyball's Matches at Ramfest

Senior Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) became the third player in Goldey-Beacom history to reach 1,000 career kills, accomplishing this during the team's play at Ramfest in West Chester, PA.

This occurred during Goldey-Beacom's 3-0 loss (10-25, 19-25, 9-25) against Millersville, which preceded a 3-0 setback at Franklin Pierce (20-25, 9-25, 18-25).

A third team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference selection in 2018 and 2019, Boyce joins rarified air in a space also occupied by Kadi McCoy (1,412 kills, 2011-14) and Lindsay Przywara (1,007 kills, 2016, 2018-19).  Boyce now stands at 1,008 kills, moving into second place.

Goldey-Beacom in the second set against Millersville raced to a 9-2 lead, thanks to two kills from Boyce along with a kill and an ace from sophomore Piper Nanouski (Ottawa, IL).  But the Marauders rallied for a 23-10 run to end the set, finishing with a .273 hitting percentage.

Boyce amassed nine kills, senior Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) had 17 assists and eight digs with freshman Claudia Camporro (Gijon, Spain) getting nine digs for the Lightning (0-4).

Laurel Samko recorded eight kills, Emma Ludwig had 25 assists and 11 digs with Rebecca Dalstad notching 12 digs for Millersville (3-0).

Against Franklin Pierce, Goldey-Beacom hung tough in the final set by getting a 13-9 kills advantage.  But the Ravens (2-1) had a 16-10 edge in the first set in closing with a .276 percentage.

Nanouski ended with 10 digs, Spendlove recorded 23 assists and 11 digs with Camporro totaling 11 digs.

Annaka Lindstrom recorded 19 assists with Morgan Schmutzler adding 17 digs for Franklin Pierce.

"I saw a lot of potential in this game.  It makes me extremely excited to see where the team heads throughout the season," head coach Taylor Rapuano said.  "You can tell we're coming together as a team.  You can see the support on the court and congratulations to Shayla Boyce on her 1,000th kill in her senior season "

"I'm very excited to play my last year alongside a group of young talented players," Boyce said.  "Today's match against Millersville was extra special for me because I was fortunate enough to attain my 1,000th career kill during the match.

"After recovering from an injury from last season, I'm extremely excited to be back playing volleyball at Goldey-Beacom with a brand new team," junior Rachel Cohen (Port Deposit, MD) said.

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday visits Lincoln (PA) for a 6:00 pm match in Lincoln University, PA.
