Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Dominates in a 5-0 Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas on Opening Day

Goldey-Beacom struck early and kept momentum going on the defensive end, lead by Alexa Pacheco (Santo Domingo, DR), for a 5-0 win home victory against St. Thomas Aquinas College, with sophomores Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) and Angela Lee (Warren, R.I.) scoring two goals, respectively.

The CACC's 2021 Rookie of the Year Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.) started her sophomore year strong after an extraordinary freshman year by assisting the Lightning's first goal by Lee in the 18th minute. Ruggeri was also listed first team CCA All-East Region and first team All-CACC following her freshman year.

A second goal was scored before the halftime whistle by Lowry on an assist by Pacheco, who continues to play well after impressive performances in preseason.

Goldey-Beacom continued its well-balanced play, which lead to a 49th-minute goal by Ruggeri off Lee's assist.

Another goal came from Lowry in the 78th minute from a long pass from the team's only senior, Jaida Brown (Millville, N.J.). The Lightning closed the game in the 82nd minute after Lee netted another assisted by Ruggeri.

Sophomore Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA.) totaled four saves for the Lightning (1-0).

"I think we performed really well today and played the full 90 minutes without losing the intensity," Lee said.  "I think this will be crucial to our season and really shows potential and sends a message."

"It was a good start to our season against a quality opponent," head coach Dan Frick said.  "We played really hard today and I can tell the team was hungry for goals.  Our forwards are going to be tough to deal with."

Goldey-Beacom hits the road on Sunday to face the Bloomsburg University in a non-conference matchup. Game time is slated for 1 PM.
