Volleyball Drops a Pair at Ramfest

Sporting a roster with just five returnees, Goldey-Beacom faced two tough opponents and was dealt a 3-0 loss by West Chester (18-25, 12-25, 16-25) and Le Moyne (20-25, 18-25, 16-25) in West Chester, PA.

The match against the home side saw GBC get a .273 hitting percentage in the first set, but West Chester ended the match with .250 after recording .296 in the opener.

Senior Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) dished 18 assists, senior Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) pounded six kills and Claudia Camporro (Gijon, Spain) totaled 14 digs.

Tori Wright pounded 10 kills and Jamie Byrne recorded 29 assists for the Golden Rams (1-0).

In the second match, the Dolphins took control with a .312 percentage in the opening set and a 13-8 kills edge.  They closed with a .241 percentage and a 34-24 kills advantage.

Spendlove recorded 15 assists, freshman Nina Bongiovanni (San Tan Valley, AZ) had seven kills, sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) totaled six and Camporro added 10 digs for the Lightning (0-2).

Isabella Leslie recorded 17 digs with Emily LaRuffa and Madeleine Kennedy getting eight kills apiece for Le Moyne (1-1).

Shayla Boyce for the day had seven kills and is at 992 career, on the verge of becoming the third player in program history to reach quadruple figures.

"Starting the season with a small and young team is no easy feat," Taylor Rapuano said after her first matches as the program's new head coach.  "I'm proud of how the girls came together and excited to see where we go.  I saw some great skills and some skills we need to work on.  With five new recruits, the girls are still learning how to mesh with each other on the court."

"It's great to be back," Spendlove said.  "I think we did a great job coming together and working as a team.  We have a lot of new players, so it's exciting to see what the future holds for us."

"With the young team we have, I couldn't be happier with the game play today," sophomore Piper Nanouski (Ottawa, IL) said.  "It's only up from here."

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is back at Ramfest to play Millersville at 10:00 am and Franklin Pierce at noon.
