Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Dealt 5-1 Season-Opening Loss by Mercyhurst

Goldey-Beacom began its grind against some of the best the East Coast has to offer with a 5-1 loss to Mercyhurst at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Mercyhurst gained the lead in the 30th minute on Nic Munch's goal, but Goldey-Beacom tied it just over two minutes later.  Tumi Sekhampu (Midrand, South Africa) took a great feed from fellow sophomore Patrick Stolze (Obersulm, Germany) and put it home from 15 yards for his fourth career goal and a 1-1 tie.

But the Lakers (1-0) had it the rest of the way, starting with Sean Kerrigan scoring from 12 yards off a pass from Dylan Sumner in the 38th minute for a 2-1 contest.  Jorge Tallada Torres found the back of the six minutes into the second half off a superb half volley, which followed a cross from Ryan Leiser for a 3-1 game.

Kerrigan played great with two goals and an assist with Axel Aronsson also scoring for the Lakers, picked to close tied for first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division.

Freshman Oscar Tengmark (Varnamo, Sweden) ended with two saves in his maiden game for the Lightning (0-1).  Sekhampu and sophomore Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) recorded two shots apiece.

Goldey-Beacom is home Sunday against Gannon, one of five opponents which played in last season's NCAA Tournament.  Game time is at noon.
