Women’s Soccer Picked to Close Sixth in the CACC

8/17/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Women's Soccer squad has been picked to end sixth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, based on a vote of the league's coaches.

A major component back at forward is sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE), last season picked first team CCA All-East Region, first team All-CACC and CACC Rookie of the Year.  She immediately cracked the starting lineup and was a dominant force with her exceptional scoring ability, tremendous passing skills and overall knowledge of the collegiate game.

Among her astounding numbers, Ruggeri ended seventh in the country with 2.06 points per game, 10th with 0.56 assists per contest, 18th with nine assists, 20th with 33 points, 22nd with 0.75 goals per game and 34th with 12 goals.  She led the CACC in assists and points in addition to closing second in goals.

Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) is one of three players who made 16 starts a season ago and once again looks to provide solid minutes on defense and at midfield.  Also a member of the softball team, Lowry played a big role in the women's soccer squad recording six shutouts and a total of 12 games in which it did not permit more than one goal.

Sophomore Lexi Coppola (Turnersville, NJ) produced the second-most points among the Lightning's returnees and seeks to have another strong year at forward.  She ended 10th in the CACC with six goals, 16th with 14 points, 29th with two assists and recorded three braces.

Goldey-Beacom (10-7, 7-4 CACC) last season advanced to the CACC Tournament a school-record seventh straight year, notched a school-record fifth straight season with double-digit victories and went into the conference tournament with a six-game winning streak that tied the school record.

Please note beginning this season, there no longer is overtime in the regular season in college soccer.  If a game is level after 90 minutes, it ends in a tie.
