Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Wins Fifth Straight, 10-6 Over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom's pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and the batters did their damage to the tune of six runs in the fourth inning, leading the squad to a 10-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Jefferson at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Things looked ominous early when the Rams plated four runs in the top of the second inning, keyed by Zack Austin's two-run double, to open the scoring.  But junior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) began to right the ship as his two-run homer in the last of the frame made it 4-2.

The margin was 5-3 going to the fourth when the Lightning (15-18, 6-2 CACC) took the lead for good.  Junior Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) lined an RBI single for a one-run deficit, sophomore Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) crushed a three-run homer for a 7-5 game and junior Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) added a two-run single to make it 9-5.

Musey's long ball was his seventh of the season, tying junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) for the team lead, and 16th career.  Musey's 31 RBI leads the squad, just four off the school record set last season by Maxwell.

Maxwell added an RBI double in the seventh for a 10-5 margin.

Swoyersville, PA freshman Tommy Federici (1-0) notched his first collegiate victory, striking out five over four innings.  Junior starter Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) struck out five over four innings and freshman Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) recorded a strikeout in the eighth inning.

The GBC record for pitching strikeouts is 15, accomplished twice that included against Saint Thomas Aquinas in last year's NCAA Tournament.

Maxwell and Megginson each had three hits and Awtry extended his career-best hitting streak to 11 games.  The school record is a 16-game run set by Brandon Abdul in 2019.

Patrick Hohlfeld (2-3) allowed seven runs and nine hits over 3 1/3 innings for the Rams (14-14, 5-6).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hosts Bloomfield for a noon doubleheader at Doyle Field in Hockessin.
