Baseball Wins 16th-Straight Home Game, 12-6 Over Wilmington

Junior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) homered twice as part of Goldey-Beacom's season-best five long balls, helping his side notch its 16th consecutive home victory with a 12-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Wilmington (DE) at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The victory moves Goldey-Beacom (24-21, 15-5 CACC) within one game of Wilmington (24-9, 16-4) for first place in the CACC South Division and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.  Each team has four games left in the regular season, including two against each other Sunday at Wilson Field in New Castle.

The Lightning were in a 5-3 hole in the fifth inning when Lindsey cracked a solo blast to left-center field and freshman Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) followed with his first homer of the season for a 5-5 tie.

The Wildcats regained the lead, 6-5, in the top of the sixth when Adrian Jimenez roped a single up the middle.  But the Lightning took the lead for good in the last of the frame with Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) crushing a two-run homer, his 11th long ball of the year, and fellow junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) following with his 13th blast of the season to extend his own school record and make it 8-6.

Three more runs in the seventh, courtesy of RBI doubles from Kolmansberger and sophomore Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) along with a sacrifice fly from junior Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) made it 11-6.  Lindsey's solo blast in the eighth punctuated the final score, marking his seventh homer of the season and the squad's 49th.

Maxwell posted three hits and three RBI with Lindsey and Kolmansberger both getting three and two.  Awtry notched two hits, extending his own school-record hitting streak to 23.

The five home runs ties the school record accomplished April 3, 2019, also against Wilmington.

Sicklerville, NJ junior Anthony DiMartino (4-3) again pitched solidly for the Lightning, striking out four over seven innings, before freshman Tommy Federici (Swoyersville, PA) notched two strikeouts over two frames.

Shawn Haut rapped two doubles, John Mead recorded two RBI and Ryan Sandberg (7-2) struck out six over six innings for the Wildcats.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Nyack for a noon doubleheader in Jersey City, NJ.
