Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls, 9-4, at Molloy

Goldey-Beacom battled a familiar non-conference foe in Molloy and left Long Island with a 9-4 setback in Uniondale, NY.

The Lions got four runs in the last of the first inning, keyed by Patrick Hoffman's two-run single.  The Lightning got two back in the top of the second with sophomore Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) lacing an RBI double and freshman Cole Fowler (Mantua, NJ) following with a run-scoring single for a 4-2 deficit.

But Molloy was quick to respond with three runs in the last of the frame for a 7-2 lead.  Garrett Scavelli had an RBI double, Thomas Brady lined a run-scoring single and David Franchi added an RBI single.

Junior Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) got an RBI single for GBC in the top of the sixth to make it an 8-3 contest.  Down 9-3 entering the ninth, the Lightning staged a comeback that saw junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) get an RBI single for the final.

Junior Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) rapped two hits and now has 99 career, only trailing former teammate Justin Hill (160) for the most in program history.  Walker and Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) also closed with two hits apiece.

Hoffman had three RBI with AJ Verga and Richard Gennaro getting four strikeouts apiece for the Lions (7-3), who won their seventh straight and are ranked second in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll.

This is the squad's first meeting since facing each other twice in last year's NCAA Tournament.  It was the Lightning's first trip to the tournament in just their fifth season.

Goldey-Beacom this weekend plays Frostburg State in a four-game series, beginning with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
