Baseball Drops a Pair to Millersville

Goldey-Beacom opened its Sunday doubleheader against Millersville with a 6-2 loss before a 15-0 setback at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Millersville in game one owned a 4-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings, getting a two-run double from Jimmy Losh in the fifth inning and Luke Trainer adding a run-scoring single for his second RBI of the day.

Junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) gave the Lightning hope in the last of the fifth, blasting a two-run homer to make it a 4-2 game.  It was his second home run of the season and 14th career long ball, one behind junior Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) for the most in program history.

But the Marauders got those runs back in the top of the sixth when Chase Simmons cracked a two-run homer for the final.

Awtry, Maxwell and junior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) each had two hits with senior Mitch Guerrieri (Greentown, PA) getting three strikeouts over four innings for the Lightning.

Trainer and Simmons each had three hits for Millersville with Losh adding two.  Nate Young (2-0) got the win and Kris Pirozzi struck out five over 3 2/3 innings for the save.

The Marauders (9-3) in game two plated eight runs in the fourth, capped by John Seibert's three-run homer.  They added six more in the fifth, punctuated by Taso Kovack's grand slam.

Seibert and Simmons had two hits apiece with Colby Gromlich striking out four over six innings in tossing a three-hit shutout.  The contest was called after six innings due to darkness.

Freshman Logan McNelis (Sewickley, PA) and junior Michael Awtry (Hockessin, DE) each had two strikeouts for GBC (3-13).

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits Molloy for a 3:00 pm single game at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY.
