Two More for Goldey-Beacom Make it on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll

2/14/2022 12:00:00 AM

The continuation of a solid men's basketball season and the beginning of a promising baseball campaign witnessed Goldey-Beacom sophomores Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) and Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) make their sport's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Derry averaged 21.0 points on 16-of-31 shooting with 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals and four 3-pointers over two games.  He poured in 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting with five 3-pointers, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in Goldey-Beacom's huge 73-69 triumph Wednesday at Jefferson.  Derry also had 17 points and seven rebounds Saturday at Bloomfield.

Derry has more than solidify the backcourt with his tremendous scoring ability and his great defense in which he repeatedly helps the Lightning get a stop at the right time.  Derry has scored at least 30 points six times this season and this is the seventh time he has been picked to the Weekly Honor Roll.

He is fourth in the country with 3.64 three-pointers per game, fifth with 80 three-pointers and 32nd with 46 steals as all of those numbers put him first in the league.  Derry also is 32nd with 20.1 points per game, 32nd with 2.09 steals per contest and 42nd with a .417 three-point percentage.

Goldey-Beacom (11-11, 7-6 CACC) sits third in the CACC South Division and is on the verge of clinching a fifth straight trip to the CACC Tournament.  The school record is six consecutive appearances, achieved from 2007-12.

Musey batted .400 (6-for-15) over four games at Lenoir-Rhyne with two home runs and eight RBI.  He went 6-for-12 over the final three games, including 3-for-5 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with two home runs and a career-best six RBI.

Musey last season stepped into the role as first baseman and made it his own, displaying a tremendous amount of offensive power and making himself a mainstay in the lineup.  All of this led the standout first baseman to be named first team All-CACC, second team NCBWA All-East Region, CACC Rookie of the Year and help Goldey-Beacom win the CACC South Division title.

He also had the knack for getting the key hit at crucial times, crushing a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning April 25 against Jefferson and smacking a two-run blast vs. Saint Thomas Aquinas in GBC's 2-1 NCAA Tournament win.  Musey finished the year 71st in the country with a .716 slugging percentage (seventh in the CACC), 82nd with 0.3 home runs per game, third in the CACC with nine home runs (second in team history), 16th with 25 RBI, 19th with a .459 on-base percentage, 28th with 29 hits and homered in five straight contests.

Goldey-Beacom is ranked 14th in the country according to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll.  It also is fourth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Preseason Poll and was picked to end tied for first in the CACC South Division.  Musey was tabbed NCBWA preseason first team all-region with junior shortstop Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) and senior pitcher Trevor Jump (Wilmington, DE) named second team.
