No.14 Goldey-Beacom concluded its four-game series with an 10-3 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, NC.
The Lightning picked up where they left off prior evening, with a single up the middle by junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, Del.) that scored sophomore Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, N.J.). in the first inning, 1-0. The Bears tied the ball game after a single to right center by Luis Atiles bringing home Cole Lasowski, 1-1.
In the fifth inning, Goldey-Beacom cut into Lenoir-Rhyne's five-run lead when heavy hitting sophomore Garrett Musey (Millville, N.J.) singled through the left side, brining home junior Mason Maxwell (Newfield, N.J.) and freshman Adam McEvoy (Sewell, N.J.), 6-3.
Musey batted .400 (6-for-15) on the weekend with two home runs and eight RBI. Awtry and junior Connor Megginson (Harbeson, Del.) had five hits apiece.
Lenoir-Rhyne maintained its momentum, adding a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth innings to exhaust Goldey-Beacom in the 10-3 defeat.
Sophomore Justin Jump (Wilmington, Del.) pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out two.
From the bullpen, sophomore Luke Taylor (Souderton, PA.), freshman Logan McNelis (Sewickley, PA.) and sophomore Tommy Federici (Swoyersville, PA.) combined for six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings for the Lightning (0-4).
The Lightning, coming off their best season in program history (22-9, 19-6 CACC), competed in their first series as a nationally ranked team in only their sixth year.
Goldey-Beacom travels to Cary, NC on Friday to compete in a four-game series, taking on Le Moyne College and Mercy College. Game one of the doubleheader is against Le Moyne College at noon.
