Men’s Basketball Picked to End Third in the CACC South Division

11/2/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's men's basketball team was selected to close third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.

Goldey-Beacom this year looks to the play of sophomore Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA), a versatile guard who provides instant offense that included him scoring in double figures his first seven games.  Starting all 26 games he played last season and one who draws plenty of attention, Collins ended third in the CACC with 98 assists, ninth with a .505 field goal percentage, 24th with 5.3 rebounds per game and 35th with 10.5 points per contest.

Junior Zack Oree (Newark, NJ) is another guard who looks to be a huge impact and hopes to make an ascent from the nine starts he had last season.  His impact on the team was evident late in the campaign when he poured in 11 points against Holy Family and 10 vs. Nyack, helping Goldey-Beacom make its push into the CACC Tournament.

If you are asking who the key frontcourt players are, sophomore Kevon Ferguson (Brooklyn, NY) has your answer.  A strong interior player who has the capability of gaining plenty of minutes this season, Ferguson made the most of his 16 games last year and more playing time is anticipated for him.

Goldey-Beacom (14-14, 10-8 CACC) last season made the CACC Tournament a fifth straight year, one shy of the school record set from 2007-12.

GBC opens its campaign November 11 against Bentley, the number one seed in last season's NCAA East Regional.
