Alyssa Ruggeri Named CACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year

10/31/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE), who continues to mystify many with her scoring touch and passing skills, took home another prestigious honor in being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

This is her second consecutive nod as first team all-conference, one season after she also was tabbed CACC Rookie of the Year and first team CCA All-East Region.

Even with the extra attention around her and her anonymity a thing of the past, Ruggeri continued to make herself and everyone around her better.  With many other players also succeeding with their own scoring and passing abilities, much of the pressure was taken off her and that led to yet another strong campaign both for her and the Lightning.

Ruggeri this season continues to light up the scoreboard and remain among the nation's elite.  She is second in the country with 13 assists, third with 0.81 assists per game, seventh with 37 points, seventh with 2.31 points per contest, 20th with 12 goals and 24th with 0.75 goals per game.  Ruggeri leads the league in assists and points in addition to being third in goals.

The Goldey-Beacom record book also is showered with her name.  She owns the school's single-season school record with 13 assists, her 37 points are fourth and her 12 goals are tied for ninth.  Career wise, her 22 assists are third in team annals, her 70 points are seventh and her 24 goals are eighth.

All of this helped Goldey-Beacom (9-7-1, 7-4-1 CACC) get back in the CACC Tournament for a school-record eighth straight competitive year in hopes of extending its school record of double-digit victories to a sixth consecutive season.

Fourth-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Monday hosts No. 5 seed Holy Family in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals.  This marks the fifth time in the last six competitive seasons GBC will have a home game in the quarterfinals.
