Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Tops Chestnut Hill for Third Straight 4-0 Win

Goldey-Beacom once again relied on the usual suspects to put together a balanced effort and record its third consecutive 4-0 victory, this time over Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE), the reigning CACC Player of the Week, continued to be the woman on the spot and was there for the game's first goal.   Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) in the seventh minute lifted a cross from the right side and Ruggeri buried one from 18 yards.

The Lightning had the pressure on the Griffins the entire match and for more than half of the game, things still remained a 1-0 contest.

Ruggeri changed all that when she hustled to a loose ball in the box and was shoved, leading to a penalty kick in the 59th minute.  Lowry took advantage of it, burying her attempt inside the right post for her fifth goal of the season and seventh career.

The 60th minute also was a good one for the Lightning, who saw their lead balloon to 3-0.  Senior Jaida Brown (Millville, NJ) fed a long pass on the right side and sophomore Angela Lee (Warren, RI) looked in front to freshman Mariah McQueen (Baltimore, MD), who tallied inside the left post for her sixth marker of the year.

Ruggeri in the 67th minute got her second of the match for the final.  Sophomore Lexi Coppola (Turnersville, NJ) rang a long shot off the crossbar and Ruggeri was there to corral the ball and find the back of the net.

Ruggeri's 10 assists this season remain tied for fourth in program history, her 32 points are tied for seventh and her 11 goals are one out of the top-10 list.  Her 19 career assists are tied for fourth in team history, her 65 points are tied for seventh and her 23 goals place her eighth.

Sophomore Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA) amassed three saves and Ruggeri had five shots for Goldey-Beacom, which also notched 4-0 wins September 28 against Staten Island and last Saturday vs. Alliance.

Kaitlyn Carter had three saves for the Griffins (7-4-2, 4-2-2 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (6-6, 4-3) moves into a tie for seventh place with Holy Family (3-1-3) in the CACC as both possess 12 points.  The league's top eight teams compete in the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at noon, which follows the women's 2:30 pm contest.
