Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Dealt 2-0 Loss by No. 24 Millersville

Goldey-Beacom played solidly in giving a great effort against 24th-ranked Millersville, but was handed a 2-0 loss at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Again playing a young lineup that this time featured eight players in their debut season, the Lightning hung tough against a squad that had scored seven goals combined over their first two games.  GBC continues to show promise as the midfield and the backline held their own for most of the contest.

Millersville struck first in the 33rd minute.  Aaron Maynard had his initial header stopped by freshman goalkeeper Zander Omans (Camden, DE), but was there for the rebound and his first goal of the season.

The Marauders then tallied in the 72nd minute for the final.  They were award a free kick 25 yards from goal and Anthony Calamia left no doubt by burying it in the top-right corner for his second goal of the season.

Calamia came off the bench with 10 shots that included six on frame and Bobby Bosch made three saves for the Marauders (3-0).

Omans made 14 saves.  While there are no single-game records available, that puts him more than 20 percent of the way toward reaching the school's career top 10 list.

Freshman Alex Alquier (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Roger Buesmail (Newark, DE) each had two shots for the Lightning (1-2).

Goldey-Beacom plays another Saturday road tilt this week as it visits Lock Haven for a 7:00 pm game.
