Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Handed 3-1 Loss at Lock Haven

Goldey-Beacom made its way up north to play another formidable opponent and was dealt a 3-1 setback at Lock Haven in Lock Haven, PA.

Goldey-Beacom, this time starting six players who made their Navy and Vegas Gold debut in 2021, stood toe-to-toe against one of the elite from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and gained a 0-0 halftime draw by stepping up on defense and denying any serious threat.

But the Bald Eagles cracked the scoreboard in the 54th minute.  The home side brought the ball down the left sideline and the ball made its way to Beckham Sibiski, who blasted one home from 20 yards.

Lock Haven doubled the margin to 2-0 in the 70th minute, taking the ball away near midfield and getting a goal from Colton Swanson off a feed from Samuel Hershey.

Senior Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia) did his best to keep the Lightning in it in the 73rd minute.  Awarded a free kick 40 yards from goal, he put one in the box that took a bounce and eluded everyone before bouncing in.  His first goal of the season and 10th career made it a 2-1 contest.

Lock Haven took advantage of another midfield opportunity to make it 3-1.  Hershey got the ball in great position, dribbled it up the middle of the field and fired home a long shot in the 85th minute to restore the two-goal margin.

Varela and freshman Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE) each had three shots with junior Pedro Santolaya (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Nate Barat (Wilmington, DE) each making two saves for the Lightning (1-3).

Andrea DiSomma attempted four shots and Aitor Ruiz De Eguilaz had one save for Lock Haven (1-1-1).

Goldey-Beacom is off until September 21, when it visits Holy Family in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener.  Kickoff is at 4:00 pm.
