Goldey-Beacom found itself tied at halftime before freshman Sincere Kato (Woodbury, NJ.) sealed the victory in the second overtime, resulting in a 3-2 win over Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.
Shepherd in the first half took went up 1-0 with a goal from Andrew West, unassisted in the eighth minute.
Goldey-Beacom got that back in the 14th minute. Freshman Dominique Ojeil (Falkenberg, Sweden) scored his first goal of the season on an assist by fellow freshman teammate Patrick Short (Georgetown, Del). The Lightning gained the lead after first goal of the season from freshman Patrick Stolze (Obersulm, Germany) netted, assisted by sophomore Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) in the 36th minute (2-1).
Shepherd in the 42nd minute tied the game up after Steven Choque netted one from teammate Abdelrahman Elmasry. Solid defensive play from both teams held the other from scoring in the second half and first period of overtime.
In the 113th minute, Kato netted his first goal of the season on an assist by Person to lift the Lightning to 3-2 victory.
Freshman Zander Omans (Canden, Del.) recorded his first collegiate victory (1-0) totaled eight saves for the Lightning, six in the second half.
Goldey-Beacom hosts Millersville University on Wednesday at 4:15 pm.
