Goldey-Beacom struck early and kept the momentum on the defensive end, getting a well-balanced team effort that was led by two goals from sophomore Hanna Clarke (Earleville, MD) in Goldey-Beacom's 3-1 victory over Daemen at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead on a rebound goal by Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.), assisted by fellow freshman Paulimar Coll (Grantville Pa.) in the 24th minute.
A long ball shot out of the keepers' hands in the 40th minute was scored by Clarke on an assist by senior Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, Pa.) that further buried the Wildcats before halftime for a 2-0 margin.
Daemen found an answer in the second half when Alyssa Diaz scored on a cross from the right assisted by Faye Panagopoulos in the 66th minute (2-1).
But Goldey-Beacom had Daemen's number after a shot off a save, Clarke put in the rebound for her first career brace thanks to Ruggeri's assist in the 80th minute. Clarke now has four career goals.
Sophomore Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) totaled five saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom hits the road next Friday to face the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference matchup. Game time is slated for 6 PM.
