Goldey-Beacom battled until the end, facing a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup in Waterbury, CT.
Post in the first half led the attack with an unassisted goal from William Nordqvist in the first minute.
Goldey-Beacom found life in the 38th minute. Freshman Patrick Short (Georgetown, Del.) scored his first goal of the season, tying the game 1-1. The Lightning gained the lead after the first goal of the season from junior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) in the 47th minute, assisted by sophomore Tumi Sekhampu (Midrand, South Africa). Sekhampu tallied two assists for the day.
Post in the 56th minute tied the game after Sergio Diaz netted one from teammate Omar Florindo. Shortly after in the 65th minute, the Eagles took the lead with an unassisted goal from Alvaro Sanchez (3-2).
In the 74th minute, freshman Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) netted his first goal, unassisted, of the season to lift the Lightning to a 3-3 tie.
Post managed to capitalize on a foul on Goldey-Beacom, gaining a free kick in the 88th minute and landing Diaz' second goal of the game for the final.
Junior Pedro Santolaya (Madrid, Spain) recorded nine saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom takes the field on October 2, hosting Caldwell University starting at 3 PM.
