Men’s Cross Country Follows Up Win With CACC Weekly Awards

9/21/2021 12:00:00 AM

A victory last Friday for Goldey-Beacom's men's cross country team was just the start of good news as it was followed by the announcement of sophomore Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) being picked the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week and freshman Michael Marioni (Glendora, NJ) tabbed the sport's Rookie of the Week.

Landvik-Larsen finished second Friday at the GBC Fall Classic, ending the 8,000-meter run in 28:21.2.

The reigning CACC Rookie of the Year and member of the all-conference team, both picked in 2019, now has four top-10 finishes for his career.  In addition, he closed 11th at this year's season-opening Panther Invitational in 24:40.0 and 14th at the Dutchmen Invitational in 27:21.7.

Marioni closed fifth at the GBC Fall Classic, finishing the 8,000-meter run in 29:39.5.  This came after he ran a season best September 11 at the Dutchmen Invitational in 29:06.9.

All of this was key in the Lightning winning the GBC Fall Classic with 36 points, easily distancing the 67 points from second-place Stevenson.  The squad had five runners end in the top 12 with senior Chris Townsend (Voorhees, NJ) closing seventh in 30:14.3, freshman Micah White (Edison, NJ) finishing 10th in 30:30.5 and sophomore Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) ending 12th in 30:56.2.

The men are ranked ninth in the East Region according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Country Association (USTFCCCA).

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Saturday at the Hornet Harrier Invitational in Winchester, VA.  The men run at 10:30 am and the women go at 11:00 am.
