Volleyball Gains Another Split of Another Tri-Match



Goldey-Beacom again received more solid play and continued to play exciting volleyball in a 3-0 victory (25-8, 25-13, 25-14) over Bowie State before a tough 3-0 setback (18-25, 19-25, 21-25) to West Chester at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the first set against Bowie State threw two types of parties.  One was a singles party with the squad getting an incredible seven aces, led by three from senior Courtney Bublitz (North East, MD).  The other was a block party with the Lightning notching four, including two from freshman Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ).
 
The second set was an offensive firestorm with GBC getting 17 kills and just one error over 27 attacks for a remarkable .593 percentage.  Freshman Piper Nanouski (Ottawa, IL) recorded six kills in the set, Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) had four and fellow junior Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) added three.
 
The dominance continued into the third set, when the Lightning owned a 13-3 kills edge and held the Bulldogs to a -.083 percentage.
 
Syrdahl against played great with 11 kills and just one error over 20 swings for a .500 percentage.  Boyce had nine kills, Nanouski recorded seven, junior Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) dished 27 assists to go with three aces and senior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) amassed 22 digs and three aces.
 
All of this helped the Lightning roll to a 36-14 kills edge with 13 aces.
 
Bianca Tucker had 12 assists and Neysha Washington ended with 14 digs for Bowie State (1-3).
 
The competitive play continued against a West Chester unit that perennially is a formidable side.  The Lightning (4-7) more than held their own in a competitive match closer than the final, but the Golden Rams (6-3) in the final set recorded 18 kills and just one error over 42 attacks for a .405 percentage.
 
Spendlove ended with 31 assists and 14 digs for her third double-double of the season and 17th career.  Syrdahl recorded 10 kills, Nanouski had nine, Shayla Boyce notched eight and Roman Concepcion continued her amazing play with 26 digs.
 
Sarah Polacek pounded 11 kills, Julia Vreeswyk had 10 with Jamie Byrne getting 36 assists and 10 digs for the Golden Rams.
 
Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday visits Georgian Court for a 6:00 pm match in Lakewood, NJ.
