Goldey-Beacom ended its home tri-match with a resounding 3-0 victory (28-26, 25-17, 25-17) over Mercy following a 3-0 loss (17-25, 22-25, 13-25) to Shepherd in Wilmington, DE.
After winning a thrilling first set against Mercy, Goldey-Beacom in the second set went on a tear with 14 kills and a .343 hitting percentage to just a .032 percentage for the visitors. The Lightning then notched a .304 percentage in the finale.
Junior Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) ended with 13 kills and no errors over 23 attacks for a solid .565 percentage. Senior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) had 12 digs with junior Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) getting 28 assists.
Stephanie Lankhorst notched seven kills, Yarianne Gonzalez dished 21 assists and Sydney Whitfield has 13 digs for the Mavericks (2-4).
It was tough going in the opener against a strong Shepherd unit with the visitors recoding a 14-8 kills edge in the first. The teams each had 23 kills over the final two sets, but the Rams had a .429 percentage in the third set to seal the win.
Spendlove recorded 22 assists and 12 digs for her second double-double of the season and 16th career, Roman Concepcion notched 20 digs and junior Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) recorded eight kills for GBC (2-5).
Kiara Rakestraw notched 11 kills with Victoria Nicholes adding 31 assists for the Rams (5-1).
Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Lincoln (PA) for a 7:00 pm match.
