5/24/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom, headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, received more awards with freshman first baseman Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) picked second team All-East Region and Tom Riley named the East Region Coach of the Year, both by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Musey, also picked the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and first team all-league, stepped into the role as first baseman and made it his own by displaying a tremendous amount of offensive power and making himself a mainstay in the lineup.  Musey is 26th in the country with an .804 slugging percentage, 45th with a .511 on-base percentage, second in the league with eight home runs (tying Maxwell for the most in one season by a Lightning), 11th with a .384 batting average, 22nd with 23 RBI and 31st with 28 hits.

He is batting .460 (23-for-50) over his last 14 games with three doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 21 RBI.  Musey has a hit in 11 of those contests and three hits in four of those games.

Riley, the CACC Coach of the Year, has been the Lightning's only coach since the program was instituted beginning with the 2016-17 academic year.  His efforts helped the Lightning to be ranked fourth in the NCAA East Region poll and best their 19 victories from the 2018 campaign.

The team also went on a pair of eight-game winning streaks, opened 8-0 for the best start in program history, has outscored its opponents 242-107, is first in the league with a .336 batting average, first with 33 home runs and second with a 4.09 ERA.

All this has Goldey-Beacom (20-7) as the number five seed for the East Regional and it will face second-seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas in its opener.  Game time Thursday is at 11:00 am with the double-elimination regional being played on the campus of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH.

Goldey-Beacom this season won the CACC South Division and is the owners of the most single-season wins in team history.

The remaining all-league picks include junior pitcher Trevor Jump (Wilmington, DE) being tabbed first team All-CACC with sophomore shortstop Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ), sophomore second baseman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE), freshman utility player Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) and junior pitcher Mitch Guerrieri (Greentown, PA) picked second all-league.
