Four for Goldey-Beacom Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

Another solid week for Goldey-Beacom Athletics saw four more of its student-athletes selected for weekly awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
 
Sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) was named the CACC Softball Player of the Week, junior Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) was tabbed the league's Pitcher of the Week with junior Trent Hearn (Bethel, DE) and senior Jake Kinsell (Carmichaels, PA) each making Baseball's Weekly Honor Roll.
 
Whitman batted .500 (3-for-6) with a double, a huge triple and six RBI on Monday against Chestnut Hill.  She had the deciding hit in game two, crushing a three-run triple that broke a tie and paced the Lightning to an 11-7 win.  Whitman closed that game with two hits and four RBI after getting an RBI double and a sacrifice fly in game one.
 
Whitman in last year's abbreviated campaign hit .462 to go with an .846 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.  She also is a member of the league's Academic Honor Roll.
 
Beres struck out five over seven innings, allowing no earned runs and three hits Monday against Chestnut Hill in an 8-2 win.
 
Beres has been one of the Lightning's most formidable players since her arrival, sitting fourth in team history with 163 strikeouts and tied for 14th with 11 career victories.  During her sophomore campaign of 2019, she ended fifth in the CACC with three shutouts, sixth with 15 complete games, eighth with 139 innings, 12th with 4.33 strikeouts per contest and 14th with eight wins.
 
Hearn batted .667 (4-for-6) Tuesday in Goldey-Beacom's doubleheader sweep of Chestnut Hill.  He went 3-for-3 in game two, including a huge RBI triple that gave the Lightning a 5-2 lead en route to a 7-2 triumph.
 
Kinsell fired 4 1/3 solid relief innings Tuesday at Chestnut Hill, notching a career-best seven strikeouts and allowing just one run and one hit in Goldey-Beacom's 4-3 game-one win.
 
The baseball team (4-0, 3-0 CACC) is off to its best start in program history, recording its first sweep of a CACC opponent in a series of at least three games.
