A little rain could not stop Goldey-Beacom on Sunday as it sought redemption from a close one earlier in the week, snatching game one 5-4 on a home run from freshman Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) in the bottom of the ninth inning and completing the sweep in game two 15-5 over Jefferson in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup in Hockessin, DE.
In game one, the Lightning tied it 3-3 after senior Ivan Solis (La Chorrea, Panama) singled to the shortstop scoring junior Trent Hearn (Bethel, DE).
The lead was seized after senior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) homered down the left-field line, bringing the score 4-3.
In the ninth inning, the Rams responded after Arturo Figueroa reached on a fielder's choice, scoring CJ Goodz that tied the game once more at 4-4. The Lightning, however, shut it down in the bottom of the frame when Musey homered to right-center field.
Carmichaels, PA senior Jake Kinsell (2-1) pitched the winning inning allowing a single run, one hit and a walk.
With all the momentum heading into game two, the Lightning lit it up in the first inning with a grand slam from freshman Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE), which was followed by Musey's home run to left center for a 5-0 lead. In the past four games, Musey has hit three home runs.
The Lightning added a third home run in the third inning after junior Bryan Bell (Chesapeake City, MD) hit a three-run shot to left-center field.
Goldey-Beacom received six RBI from Walker, four from Bell and two from Solis.
The Rams responded in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Vince Barone, bringing the score 14-5. But the Lightning had their number from the start and sealed the sweep after Walker's double down the left-field line to score sophomore Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) in the 15-5 win.
Wilmington, DE freshman Justin Jump (2-0) pitched five innings striking out three, allowing two runs, five hits and four walks in the win.
After today, Goldey-Beacom (11-3, 10-3 CACC) holds first place in the CACC South Division by a half game over Wilmington.
Goldey-Beacom heads to Pomona, NY on Tuesday to face Dominican (NY) in a doubleheader starting at 2PM.
