Men’s Basketball Gets Two Drafted by The Basketball League

3/1/2021 12:00:00 AM

Two of Goldey-Beacom's most recent players, Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) and Chandler Levingston Simon (Vernon Hills, IL), got a coveted call all players dream about as both were selected to compete in The Basketball League.

Levingston Simon was tabbed 17th overall by the expansion Little Rock Lightning and Swint was picked 57th overall by the second-year Tri-State Admirals.

Swint had a strong three-year run (2014-17) at guard for the Lightning in which he showed great poise both as a starter and coming off the bench.  That play helped build the foundation for the squad's current success, which his senior year produced the first of the program's back-to-back 20-win seasons.

He graduated tied for ninth in team history with a .787 free throw percentage to go with 627 points (9.8 ppg), 203 rebounds, 114 assists, 68 steals, 65 three-pointers and 23 blocks.

Including his freshman campaign at Albright College in which he was named the 2014 Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year, Swint ended his collegiate career with 965 points.

Swint's senior campaign in 2016-17 truly was a special one in which the Lightning amassed a 20-7 record and the first of what presently is four straight appearances for the program in the CACC Tournament.  He averaged 10.4 points per game to go with a .495 shooting percentage, scored in double figures seven times and had a double-double January 14, 2017 at Dominican (NY).

GBC that season posted winning streaks of 12 straight overall, 10 consecutive in the CACC and seven on the road.  All of those remain school records.  The Lightning's 20 wins that season tied a school record and their 11 road victories remain a team best.

Swint in 2018 signed with Club Once Lobos out of El Salvador.

Levingston Simon only played for GBC during the 2017-18 campaign, but was a member of the squad's second straight 20-win season and its first CACC South Division title since 2012.

In a 93-61 rout of Concordia (NY) on February 10, 2018 that vaulted Goldey-Beacom into first place, Levingston Simon scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with eight rebounds, a block and a 3-pointer.  He also netted six points in the squad's 87-80 CACC quarterfinal victory over Felician.

"I am thrilled for both Chandler and Sameen," Goldey-Beacom coach TJ Dekmar said.  "I know how hard each of them have been working leading up to this draft and I am so happy that their hard work has paid off.  Little Rock and Tri-State are getting two very skilled, smart players that will do whatever is needed to help their teams win.  I am so proud of both of them and very excited to watch them succeed in the TBL."

Beginning play in 2018 as North American Premier Basketball (NAPB), The Basketball League runs on a budget not to exceed $250,000 with players salaries ranging from $1,000-$4,000 per month.  A schedule for this year's 35-team league has not been announced.
