Basketball Teams Sees a Repeat Duo on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll

12/6/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's basketball teams today received the exact same news it got last week at this time with sophomores Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) and Briana Seltzer (Reading, PA) each being picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

While it is Seltzer's second such honor this season, Derry has been feted with this distinction all four weeks in the young campaign.

Derry averaged 25.0 points on 53 percent shooting (17-of-32) over two games with 11 three-pointers, six assists, five steals and five rebounds.  He poured in a career-best 35 points on 11-of-17 shooting with a personal-best nine 3-pointers along with four assists and four rebounds in Goldey-Beacom's 88-75 triumph Wednesday over Georgian Court.  Derry also netted 15 points Saturday at Chestnut Hill.

Derry this season has been putting up numbers in an alarming rate for a Goldey-Beacom squad which was picked to end second in the CACC South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.  Four times this season he has reached a new career high in points with at least 24 and three of those games have seen him score at least 30.

He is 11th in the country with 3.75 three-pointers per game (first in the CACC), 13th with 30 three-pointers (first in the CACC), 23rd with 169 points (first in the CACC), 26th with 36.25 minutes per game, 30th with 61 field goals, 31st with 21.1 points per contest, 42nd with 290 minutes and 58th with 16 steals (tied for first in the CACC).

Seltzer averaged 21.0 points on 54 percent shooting (15-of-28) with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.  She poured in 26 points, one off her career-best, on 9-of-17 shooting with three assists Wednesday in Goldey-Beacom's 90-78 triumph over Georgian Court.  Seltzer also scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting Saturday at Chestnut Hill.

Seltzer of late has been on a tear, scoring in double figures her last six games and averaging 21.0 points over her last four contests.  She is shooting 47 percent (28-of-59) from the floor over the last four games with seven 3-pointers.

She is 21st in the nation with a .920 free throw percentage (first in the CACC), fifth in the CACC with 16.1 points per game, eighth with 113 points, 12th with 12 three-pointers, 14th with 39 field goals and 21st with 17 assists.

Both teams Tuesday are home against Jefferson with the women's game at 6:00 pm and the men to follow at 8:00 pm.
