Goldey-Beacom dominated in a 2-0 victory Wednesday over Jefferson in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
The Lightning gained a 1-0 lead in the first half when freshman Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.) drilled one in off a giveaway in the 27th minute. Junior Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, Del.) contributed to the giveaway and got the assist.
Ruggeri, the reigning CACC Player & Rookie of the Week, now has 12 goals on the season and that puts her tied for ninth on the school's single-season list. Her 33 points moves her into a tie for fifth.
In the 36th minute, the Lightning struck again when freshman Angela Lee (Warren, R.I.) netted one in off a cross from Ruggeri. Lee's fifth goal of the season lifted the Lightning to a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Lightning (10-6, 7-4 CACC) shut the door in the second half in recording their sixth straight win and fifth consecutive season with double-figure victories. Sophomore Noel Talbot (Westminster, Md.) recorded five saves.
Laural Erick had three shots for the Rams (9-5-1, 8-3 CACC).
Goldey-Beacom, headed to the conference tournament for a school-record seventh straight year, will be the fifth seed and next Tuesday will visit fourth-seeded Wilmington in the quarterfinals. Game time is to be determined. Jefferson entered the game in a three-way tie for first place, but dropped to the three seed and will host Post.
