Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Handed 3-1 Loss at Wilmington (DE) in the CACC Quarterfinals

Despite gaining an early lead, Goldey-Beacom was breached for three unanswered goals and saw its season end with a 3-1 loss at Wilmington at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Newark, DE.

The Lightning gained instant momentum in the fourth minute when they grabbed a 1-0 lead.  Freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) dribbled the ball down the right side, saw it go off the defender and then regained control before burying one inside the left post.

It was Lowry's second goal of the season.

The Wildcats answered in the 11th minute for a 1-1 tie.  Jimena Garcia Risoto took advantage of a misplay from the defense and chipped one home for her 10th marker of the season.

Wilmington then used a set piece in the 24th minute for a 2-1 cushion.  Off a corner kick, Kasie Lambert put one in front and Samantha Emmi's header found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year.

It remained a one-goal contest going into the second half, when Goldey-Beacom's offense did its best to forge the tying marker.  But it was Wilmington getting the game's fourth goal as Lauren Hoelke in the 53rd minute scored her seventh of year off a feed from Julia Yuhase for a 3-1 margin.

Senior Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, PA) had three shots and sophomore Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) made four saves for GBC.  Hoelke recorded five shots and Emily Camp amassed four saves for Wilmington (11-4-3, 7-2-2 CACC).

The loss ends another standout year for the Lightning (10-7, 7-4), who entered as the tournament's fifth seed and were making their school-record seventh straight trip to the CACC Tournament.  The squad also notched double digits in victories for a team-best fifth consecutive campaign.

However, the squad saw its run of three straight appearances in the CACC semifinals come to an end and its six-game winning streak that equaled a program best also was halted.

Goldey-Beacom earlier today learned freshman Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE) was named CACC Rookie of the Year and first team all-conference.  Junior Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) was picked first team all-league with Talbot and senior Kelly Mejia (State College, PA) tabbed second team.
